What is a TENS machine?

A TENS machine is a small, handheld device that sends gentle electrical pulses through adhesive pads placed on your lower back. These pulses help interrupt pain signals travelling to the brain and encourage your body to release natural endorphins — your own built-in pain relief.

Many people describe the sensation as a light tapping or buzzing that becomes comforting and familiar as labour progresses.

What's Included:

Each TENS rental is thoughtfully prepared so you feel confident and ready to use it when labour begins. Your rental includes:

• A labour-specific TENS machine (brand is Obi TENS)

• New electrode pads for personal use

• Clear written instructions for setup and guidance on when and how to use the TENS machine for labour and birth

Machines are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between each use following medical-grade guidelines. Electrode pads are one-time use, so can be discarded following your rental.

• TENS Machine Rental: $75

• Rental includes use of the TENS unit for your birth, all accessories listed, and support so you feel comfortable using it when the time comes.

Special Note: If you’re already working with me as your doula, I’m happy to walk you through setup and answer any questions in a prenatal visit. If you’re renting independently, you’ll still receive everything you need to use the machine with confidence.
